KWARA GIS BIDS FAREWELL TO RETIRED SURVEYOR GENERAL, HANDS OVER TO HARUNA
The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS) has bid a fond farewell to its esteemed Surveyor General, Afolayan Timothy Adeyemi, on Thursday on his retirement from the civil service, after 35 years of dedicated service in a ceremony held at the Surveyor General’s office, which is the culmination of a remarkable career marked by dedication, expertise, and commitment to public service.
During the ceremony, Surveyor Afolayan Timothy Adeyemi formally handed over the reins of office to Surveyor Abdullahi Haruna, marking the beginning of a new era in the Agency.
In his valedictory remarks, the outgoing Surveyor General expressed profound gratitude to the Kwara State Government, the Executive Chairman of KWGIS, and the entire staff of the Agency for their support during his tenure.
He urged the staff to cooperate with the new Acting Surveyor General to drive the progress of the Directorate and the Agency.
In his inaugural speech, Surveyor Abdullahi Haruna pledged to reposition the Surveyor General’s Office as a hub of excellence in geospatial services. He outlined five key priorities to guide his tenure, including modernization of surveying and mapping, strengthening land administration, capacity building, collaboration and partnerships, as well as integrity and service delivery.
Haruna expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman of KWGIS, ESV. Sulyman Abdulkareem, for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work with diligence, transparency, and innovation to achieve his vision.
The Acting Surveyor General emphasized the importance of accurate survey data and geospatial intelligence in driving infrastructural development, urban planning, land reforms, environmental management, and security.
He pledged to foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and timely service delivery, ensuring that the people of Kwara State derive maximum value from the operations of the office.
Haruna called for the collective support of stakeholders and the government to transform the office into a model for other states in Nigeria. With a commitment to serve diligently for the progress and prosperity of Kwara State, Haruna urged Kwarans to join hands with him in building a future where accurate geospatial information guides every policy, project, and plan for the upliftment of the people.
